dc.description.abstract | This research focusses on the role of smart specialisation in Dutch regional policy making. The research examines to what extent policy practices reflect the theory on smart specialisation, with a specific focus on the concept of entrepreneurial discovery. In conclusion, such a reflection appears to be the case, although there is limited attention for what challenges and opportunities are posed by the wider environment. Dutch regions, moreover, already showed an inclination to entrepreneurial discovery, each in their own specific way. Another outcome is that the translation of concepts into practices always proves difficult, as it is mediated through local interests, preferences and habits. Considerable variation remains about what smart specialisation entails. For many policy-makers practical interests (how the get and distribute the money) tend to prevail. | en_US |
