This master thesis is an evaluation pf Roze Stadsdorp Amsterdam, which is an initiative trying to oppose loneliness and social isolation of LGB (Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual) in Amsterdam and its environs. Research showed that a substantial part of the LGB elderly community is lonely and/or socially isolated. With organizing a wide variety of activities on both the city- and the neighborhood level, Roze Stadsdorp aims to create a new and solid social network for its individual members and neighborhood-inclusion (meaning a working social network on which someone can rely for informal help and care) between the individual members. In my mater thesis I evaluated Roze Stadsdorp and its successfulness in creating a social network for and neighborhood-inclusion between its individual members AND whether the initiative is successful in reducing loneliness and social isolation amongst LGB elderly. To investigate this, a main question and several sub-questions have been created. The overall result is that Roze Stadsdorp is doing well in creating a new and solid social network for members, meaning that it also reduces social isolation and loneliness amongst its members. The initiative does lack an inclusive character, meaning that neighborhood-inclusion between members is still absent. The most important reason for this finding is the fact that people do create a new social network, but that true friendships between different members is still absent.
