| dc.description.abstract | In today’s dynamic business environment, firms are increasingly confronted with crises that jeopardize their survival and operational stability. As such, firms must proactively prepare for crises and leverage corporate social responsibility (CSR) engagement to stay competitive and successful in the long run. However, thus far research has not investigated the combined effect of crisis preparedness and CSR engagement on post-crisis performance. Through the lens of the resourced-based view (RBV), this study examines the relationship between crisis preparedness and post-crisis performance, and the moderating role of CSR engagement. An analysis of a panel dataset of crisis and non-crisis firms, covering the period between 2018 and 2023, reveals that crisis preparedness positively influences post-crisis performance. In addition, CSR engagement positively moderates this relationship, thereby amplifying the effectiveness of crisis preparedness on post-crisis performance. These findings provide valuable insights for managers and executives by demonstrating the value of crisis preparedness and CSR engagement that can function as proactive strategic resources and enhance a firm’s ability to succeed and stay competitive in the long-term. This research offers novel insights into these relationships and establishes a foundation for future research to explore them in greater depth. | |
