The increasing policy attention for the widespread phenomenon of return migration combined with a current lack of policy evaluation and monitoring studies highlights the need for a policy approach on return migration. In this way, we can learn how effective certain return assistance policies are and how they interact with the returnees and their return migration process. Armenia as case is chosen to illustrate Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) and AVR policies of NGOs. Cassarino’s return preparedness theory and critical realism are applied to this case to research the return preparation and reintegration process. Thereby, a full-scale analysis of the complete return migration process in the host and origin country is made.en_US
