dc.description.abstractIn light of COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions and the increased advocacy towards sustainable mobility, there is a surge in demand to build cycling infrastructure and facilities, connect cycle networks to the overall transport system, and adopt cyclist- friendly traffic regulations in urban areas. While cycling behaviour in the UK is generally low, the city of Cambridge stands out from other cities in Britain due to its strong cycling culture. Often referred to as Britain’s Cycling City, one in five trips in Cambridge are travelled by bicycle, with a significant proportion of them being made by students. Cambridge’s prestigious university’s distinctive policy of prohibiting students from bringing cars to campus has often been referred to as one of the reasons encouraging students to cycle. Adopting a deductive thematic analysis based on extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (eTPB), this study examines students' cycling behaviour in Cambridge, UK. By providing such insights that can enhance the comprehension of cycling behaviour and underscoring the importance of understanding this specific group within the UK's urban population, the study endeavours to contribute to the development of more effective cycling interventions in UK cities, one that can be led by independent institutions such as universities.
