More insight was needed in the effect local clustering, sub-local clustering and the combination between local- and sub-local clustering on the development of the business network of USOs. A quantitative theory-driven research fitted with the subject of this research. 332 separate USOs participated in this research, in at least one of the years the survey was sent out (2004, 2008, 2011). So, some USOs participated multiple times, enabling the analysis of the business network development. The results and conclusion have shown that local clustering, sub-local clustering and the combination between local- and sub-local clustering can have an influence on the development of the business network of USOs, but for some expected effects no significant results were found. This research contributed to the scientific literature about the effect of clustering on different spatial scale levels on the business network development of USOs and can form the basis for further qualitative and quantitative research.
