Abstract
At Universities of Applied Sciences the perceived time pressure is high which influences the work-life balance of employees. This occurs despite the introduction of work-life balance practices (WLB practices). A working time regime is characterized by the normalized use in organizations of working hours and beyond working hours through employees. This regime can influence the implementation of planned WLB practices in organizations. At the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (HAN), a Dutch University of Applied Sciences, the working time regime has a negative influence on participating in WLB practices due to shortage in working hours. This qualitative study concentrates on three necessary steps before employees will participate in WLB practices. First, it is important that the organization of the WLB practice fits the working time regime; flexibility is required and individual WLB practices are preferred. Second, employees need to became aware of WLB practices, which is done through providing practical information and clearing benefits. Third, the supervisor must motivate employees who need help in their work-life balance, so they will participating in WLB practices.
