Abstract
This structure-related diagnostic research elaborates on the diagnosis and assessment of the organizational structure of nursing teams of ZZG zorggroep. The research is twofold and focusses on the organizational structure on the one hand, and the contextual factors that influence this structure on the other. First, a structural diagnosis is conducted exploring the present problematical diagnostic variables of the current organizational structure. Further it is analysed how structural parameter values affect these diagnostic variables. Eventually present contextual factors and the influence that these factors have on the structural parameters are analysed. It is perceived that the current nursing backup team are sometimes unable to guarantee their arrival within thirty minutes in case of a clients’ emergency signal, as required by law, is the reason for a structural diagnosis. In order to ensure the organizations’ viability, the organizational structure should enable the backup teams to comply with these requirements. Earlier, in the Wijchen region, this problematical variable was solved by reorganizing along the lines of sociotechnical principles.
The second part of this research explores in which way a similar structure (the so-called “alternative structure”) may be able to solve the problems encountered in the Nijmegen region. More specifically, the goal of this research is to provide recommendations for ZZG zorggroep Nijmegen region with respect to diagnosing the cause of the current organizational structure’s inability to meet the established requirements. This research provides knowledge through explaining in which way the alternative structure may be able to meet the performance indicators and requirements in the Nijmegen region. This research is concluded by assessing the current and alternative structures on meeting the established performance indicators and requirements. For the diagnosis and assessment of the current and alternative organizational structure, data is collected through semi-structured interviews. The outcomes of this research show that the alternative integral structure, designed along the lines of sociotechnical principles, seems to have lower parameter values and accounts for contextual factors in a more satisfactory way. Therefore, the problematic values of the diagnostic variables should resolve, ensuring compliance with the performance indicators and requirements.
