Abstract
This study was designed to compare the performance in time-based prospective memory
(TBPM) with event-based prospective memory (EBPM) in clinical depressive and anxious
individuals. Twenty clinically depressive and twenty clinically anxious patients of a
revalidation clinic in Germany participated in this study. There was one computer-based
TBPM tasks and one EBPM task that both computed information about the responses of the
participants. Thereby, the proportion of correct responses on the two different PM tasks could
be compared. As a control, questionnaires about depressive and anxious symptoms,
premorbid intelligence and the emotional affect were assessed. There was no significant
difference between the clinical anxious and depressive groups on neither the proportional
correct responses of the EBPM task or of the TBPM task. These results indicate that there
might not be a difference between the effects of anxiety and depression on TBPM and EBPM.
In regard to a significant difference between the two samples in their level of depression but
no significant difference in the level of anxiety, the results are discussed and indications for
future researches are given.
