Abstract:
Despite the success of the Icelandic Centre for Social Research and Analysis (ICSRA) to prevent adolescents from initiating alcohol consumption, there are still a few adolescents who initiate and continue consuming alcohol excessively. Studies have shown that alcohol consumption can lead to various social, psychological, and physical consequences, such as relationship problems, suicidal thoughts, and liver disease. Thus, the question remains: why do these adolescents engage in this behavior and how can these adolescents consume less alcohol? Together with the ICSRA, we developed a social psychological intervention to decrease the number of times Icelandic alcohol-consuming adolescents reported having become drunk.
