Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to explore how the concepts of the death of the author, fan culture, and fanfiction specifically manifest within the Harry Potter fandom. This will be explored particularly through MsKingBean89’s fanfiction All the Young Dudes, which is a fitting example on how to resist Rowling’s authorial intent. Using literary analysis and the Death of the Author theory, this study examines how fanfiction reinterprets and transforms the original text, offering new insights into the relationship between fan culture and literary theory, even though the fandom is not consciously applying Barthes’ theory.
