Abstract
Accent is a factor that research has shown can influence the way others perceive a person.
There has been abundant research investigating this in the context of native speakers, and to a
lesser extent, in L2 speakers as well. The research investigating L2 accent evaluations has, up
to this point, focussed primarily on different varieties from all over the globe. However, no
research has focussed specifically on accent evaluations of accents deriving from a single
country. This paper conducts research into the accent evaluations of 32 Dutch speakers of
English to see whether or not, in a job interview context, accent biases for British accents are
present. It was found that the Dutch have a similar accent hierarchy to the British, with gender
and age playing a role in the scores given to different British accents.
