Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in changes in people's routines and lifestyles, reportedly leading to significant weight changes worldwide. A qualitative content analysis of forum posts posted between 2018 and 2024 was conducted to study the relationship between individuals' weight changes and their sensory experience of wearing clothes and how individuals feel about the clothes in their closets before and after their weight changes. Additionally, it studied the relationship individuals who had experienced weight changes had with physical and online shopping. Lastly, this thesis investigated the role of clothing and weight changes' on individuals' pandemic experiences. The study revealed that weight fluctuations influence individuals' experiences with clothing. These changes also influence individuals' shopping behaviours, with forum members describing how they adjusted their purchasing strategies. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic was limited but presented itself in various ways, shaping how weight, clothing, and clothes shopping were experienced.
