Abstract
This paper looks into the relationship between the subsidies given through the Common Agricultural Policy, and the intended increase in employment. This was done using a dataset built from the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) and Eurostat. A fixed effects regression was performed on both the European level, and the regional level for France and Germany. The results of this were twofold: (1) the CAP subsidies do have a positive effect on employment in Agriculture, (2) and there appears to be a difference in effectiveness between countries, based on institutional differences. An unexpected smaller result showed that there is also a difference between Eastern and Western European countries. Future research should continue to look into these results.
