Abstract

This thesis investigates Alexandra Kleeman’s novel You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine (2015) in the framework of Metamodernism through an exploration of affective relationships between individuals and broader sociocultural contexts. This thesis, therefore, contributes to the ongoing academic discussion of a metamodern structure of feeling and is closely aligned with the application of the metamodern label in the literary discipline. Three points of emphasis in this thesis support the assumption of metamodernism as situated in a space of oscillation between modern enthusiasm and postmodern deconstruction: 1. Narratives of persuasion and consumption in a capitalist society, 2. Postirony, 3. Intertextuality.
