Abstract
Enhancing work engagement and job satisfaction can help organizations achieve a competitive advantage through employee performance and commitment. An important question is how to enhance these states. The job demands-resources model suggests that resources increase motivational states and that job demands enhance these relationships. Using the most important resources and demands in elderly care, the research question is: What is the relationship of supervisor support and psychological capital with work engagement and job satisfaction in elderly care nurses, as moderated by emotional demands at work? To investigate this, questionnaires were distributed among employees in the Diakonisches Werk Wolfsburg e.V.. Results confirmed significant relationships between supervisor support and job satisfaction, psychological capital and job satisfaction, and psychological capital and work engagement. The relationship between supervisor support and work engagement, and the moderation effects remained non-significant. Theoretical and methodological explanations and practical implications are offered.
