Hybrid Working, Perceived Team Trust, and Job Satisfaction: A Moderated Mediation Analysis

Abstract
The effects of hybrid working on employees are not well studied. This research builds upon the job demands-resources model and uses a moderated mediation analysis to investigate the effect of hybrid working on job satisfaction. We study whether perceived team trust mediates the relationship between number of days working in the office and job satisfaction and whether supervisor support and use of video communication moderate the relationship between number of office days and perceived team trust. A sample of 177 human resources employees, working in a German specialty chemical company, filled out an online questionnaire. The results show that number of office days is not related to perceived team trust or job satisfaction and there is no moderation or mediation effect. However, perceived team trust is positively related to job satisfaction. In conclusion, interpersonal relationships at work seem to be more important than the location for job satisfaction.
