Abstract
Little is known about which factors relate to the attractiveness of craftsman professions (AoCP). Therefore, it was aimed to investigate the relationship of skill variety, task significance, autonomy, development opportunities, and occupational self-efficacy with AoCP moderated by experience. Of the 170 participants who filled in the questionnaire, 161 were eligible for analysis because they are indeed current students in vocational training institutions for craftsman professions (36.6%) or craftsman professionals (63.4%) in Germany. The results show significant, positive relationships of development opportunities and occupational self-efficacy with AoCP, while skill variety, task significance and autonomy do not relate to AoCP. Experience does not moderate these relationships. This research contributes to new insights in the job attraction literature by first, focusing on craftsman professions and second, investigating the impact of experience on the relationships between predictors and job attractiveness. Keywords: job attractiveness, craftsman professions, skill variety, task significance, autonomy, development opportunities, occupational self-efficacy, experience
