Abstract
Organizations must innovate to remain competitive. However, the education sector is one of the sectors with the highest workload in the Netherlands. This workload hinders employees to perform innovative work behavior. Job demands and job resources are two important drivers of innovative work behavior and these together form the job design within an organization. Within the JD-R model, different job demands and job resources are researched. However, how the interaction of job demands and job resources influences IWB has not been studied before. The aim of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of the relationship between the joint effect of job demands and job resources and innovative work behavior by answering the following research question: ‘How does the joint effect of job demands and job resources influence employees’ innovative work behavior?’. Based on an explorative multiple case study, twelve teachers of four different schools are interviewed. This resulted in interesting findings, which contribute to the existing scientific literature. This study showed amongst other things that the degree of job resources is more important for teachers than the degree of job demands. Based on the results, recommendations for further research are made in order to investigate the influence of the joint-effect even more in-depth.
