Abstract
The question of the partnership was pending in Lithuanian politics for 20 years with no legal resolution. Over the past year, the new Partnership law/bill, which would legalize partnership regardless of one’s sex or gender was prepared and read in Lithuanian Parliament. This caused increased homophobia and far-right politics/rhetoric among the general public. Often, in the far-right discourses, there would be arguments such as 'before Moscow used to tell us what to do and how to live, and now Brussels is doing the same, with its distorted ideologies.' Precisely because of that, I propose to look at the Lithuanian present through trauma theories and suggest that raising opposition towards partnership law and LGBTQ+ identities is partly related to the post-communist collective trauma. My thesis explores the concept of collective trauma through spatial narratives in the context of the former USSR, Independent Lithuanian and in the battles over identity today.
