Abstract
There are numerous challenges which organisations face regarding diversity and inclusion. In order to tackle inequality regimes, organisations adopt diversity and inclusion policies. The goals and actions that comprise these policies are different per organisation. How the diversity and inclusion policy actually lands on the work floor depends on the implementation by line-managers, and the experience by employees. Changing inequality regimes remains difficult due to barriers to change such as different power positions, the lack of visibility and awareness, or the legitimacy of inequalities. Besides that, organisational members might be blind to inequalities, fatigued by diversity, or under the illusion of fairness. In order to seek understanding in how the achievement of the diversity and inclusion goals is related to the implementation of the diversity and inclusion policy by line-managers, and the experience with the policy by employees, a single case study is conducted. The findings suggest that the attainment of the diversity and inclusion goals is separate from the implementation and experience of the diversity and inclusion policy. To diminish this discrepancy, the organisation should create awareness of the policy, offer adequate strategies to perform actions to enhance diversity and inclusion, and clarify the value of diversity and inclusion to all organisational members.
