Abstract
There is a lack of research regarding the supporting role of MCDA and game theoretical methods in strategic decision-making processes. Therefore, the aim of this research is to gain insights into the needs for decision support in strategic decision-making processes and how MCDA and game theoretical methods could address these needs for decision support. For this purpose, strategic decision-making processes in case studies from practice are analyzed to identify several needs for decision support. Following this, the role of MCDA and game theoretical methods in supporting strategic decision-making processes is investigated. In this research, two MCDA methods were studied, being AHP and SMART, and one game theoretical perspective was investigated, being dynamic games. The findings of this research provide an overview of the needs for decision support that can be derived from strategic decision-making processes in practice. Moreover, this research indicates for which needs for decision support and particular phases and characteristics of a strategic decision-making process the use of AHP, SMART, or dynamic games could be suitable. In addition, insights into how the adoption of these several decision support methods could possibly provide support to strategic decision-making processes are discussed.
