Abstract
The goal of this thesis is to investigate how a tree-type natural deduction proof
system for epistemic logic can be formalised. This problem is approached by
laying out the concepts of epistemic logic and natural deduction and presenting
three natural deduction methods: the linear Fitch method, and the tree-type
Prawitz and Logic and Applications methods. By analysing those methods as
examples, we concluded that the most important part of formalising a natural deduction proof system for epistemic logic, is deciding how to incorporate
the constraints concerning the assumptions used in the derivation of a modal
formula. The three methods showed us different approaches of tackling that
problem.
