dc.description.abstractDigital Transformation in Knowledge Management Systems (KMS/s) is a recent but escalating phenomenon which affects employees in Multinational Enterprises, primarily in emerging economies. Unfortunately, existing literature on digital transformation in KMS focuses predominantly on western industrial economies. Also, quantitative research designs dominate, which neglects unique insights into the phenomenon under scrutiny. My thesis takes an exploratory, deductive-inductive-deductive approach to provide an insight into digital transformation in KMS of MNE in emerging economies. Therefore, the research question How does Digital Transformation in Knowledge Management Systems affect employees who work for technology and service MNE in Thailand is asked. For data collection, I conducted fifteen semi-structured interviews among employees in the technology and service industry of Thailand, each working for a different MNE. The goal is to identify key themes how digital transformation in KMS affects knowledge sharing of employees across subsidiaries. In total, I identified five key findings that affect knowledge sharing of employees. Namely, KMS are perceived to be inefficiently designed since it does not cater the preferences of employees. In addition, digital transformation in KMS requires stellar human resources, which are not satisfied by existing training systems of MNE. Another finding is that employees resist to change and develop informal means of knowledge sharing. Ultimately, there is a silo mentality of not share among employees in the technology and service industry of Thailand. Especially the silo mentality has not received attention in existing research. The results of my thesis provide important insight for MNE how to align KMS to the preferences of their employees to improve KMS of MNE.en_US
