Purpose: This research diagnosed what remains of the innovation structure after a major reorganisation. The researcher analysed the innovation structures within a project-based firm on three levels of recursion and their in-between synergy. Methodology: This research uses a deductive qualitative case-study approach using the Modell Innovation and Organisation Structure (MIOS) of the Lowlands-SocioTechnical Systems Design. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews. In total, eight in-depth interviews were undertaken with employees on three levels of recursion in a construction company. These data were analysed using content analysis techniques. Findings: This research shows that the need for a decentralised approach is high and that the role of higher management is threefold: to provide tuned standardised modules for shaping the innovation structures, to act as a collective memory, and to act as a facilitator to increase the internal learning capacity. Value: Scientifically, this research adds to the evidence for the usability of MIOS in analysing the synergy of its innovation structures on diverse levels of recursion within a large project-based company. Practically, it gives suggestions on shaping decentralised innovation structures.en_US
