Abstract
This thesis examines the strategies employed by the Dutch royal family in dealing with the two cases of divorce that occurred during the nineteenth century, this being the separation of King William III and his wife Queen Sophie of Wurttemberg and the divorce of Princess Marianne of the Netherlands and her husband Prince Albert of Prussia.
