Abstract

Intramural healthcare organizations in the Netherlands are increasingly faced with staff shortages, which are only expected to get worse in the following decades. To deal with this, healthcare organizations can opt to use technology such as tracking devices. These tracking devices can help by restraining clients within living circles, which are electronic maps with a fixed border for clients to stay within. This study aims to explore what aspects play a role in healthcare employees’ adoption intention of living circles, and research how these aspects affect the adoption intention of living circles. To establish this, an embedded mixed-methods case study is used. Data was collected by conducting six interviews, and by analysing output of eight surveys. The results of this study showed that social influence, existing technology, and human resources seem to play a role in the adoption intention of new technology. However, findings on the relation between structure and adoption intention cannot be interpreted to make such statements.
