Abstract

Blended learning is a relatively new instruction method that enables teachers to combine face-to-face learning and e-learning. Blended learning is a solution for the disadvantages of e-learning and provides more flexibility and is able to stimulate certain knowledge sharing processes. Therefore, this study is comparing the effect of the context of blended learning on knowledge sharing compared to the influence of e-learning on knowledge sharing. In this research, the theories of SECI and ba provide a basis as a theoretical framework to conduct abductive research with the aim of theory creation. A qualitative abductive approach is used by conducting eight interviews, four participative observations and document analysis in a Dutch University. Blended learning can stimulate single knowledge sharing process of the SECI model, while e-learning has its limitations on externalization and combination of knowledge. This research delivers a visualization in the form of a model to the literature of knowledge sharing.
