Abstract
This study did research on the effects of colour manipulation in icon arrays and the level of involvement to the topic on intended behaviour change to reduce the daily added sugar intake. Participants were exposed to three icon arrays, either in the colour combination red and green or black and white, presenting the impact of added sugar intake on the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Participants were asked to fill in a questionnaire, assessing participant’s level of involvement (low or high) and their intended behaviour change. Results showed no significant effect of the colour manipulation on intended behaviour change. However, participants with a high level of involvement to the topic were significantly more willing to reduce their daily added sugar intake than those with low involvement. These results emphasize the important role of involvement in effective health risk communication.
