| dc.description.abstract | This thesis explores the extent in which Brexit has influenced the marine borderscape of fisheries between the UK and the EU. Fisheries have held symbolic and political significance during the Brexit process, serving as one of the most important discussion points during the negotiations. Through the use of interviews, this thesis demonstrates the effects that Brexit has had on the borderscape. Brexit has reshaped the landscape of the border between the UK and the EU, permeating through all aspects of the border; It shows that the border has changed physically, both economically through policy such as the Economic Link and quota negotiations, as well as politically, as the increased uncertainty and bureaucracy has created barriers in international relations. Furthermore, the social relations on the North Sea have also changed, as both the perceptions of the UK and the EU have shifted, with both feelings of sympathy and resentment being shown. Lastly, it remains interesting to see how the borderscape is going to develop in the future, as the TCA negotiations of 2026 and the increasing pressure of multiple use of space on the North Sea will influence the borderscape in the years to come. | |
