dc.description.abstract | This is a parallel edition based on my own transcriptions of two versions of a late Middle-English translation of a Latin text named Liber Lunae. This is a magical text in the tradition of Hermeticism. The two versions are British Library, Sloane 3826 and British Library, Sloane 3846, dating from the start of the 17th century and 1564, respectively. The Liber Lunae is a text that has received only little attention within the field of medieval magic, something this edition seeks to change through facilitating access to the text. The Liber Lunae contains astral magic, which aims to change the future. The origin of much of the theory within the text can be traced back to the Middle-East, especially the sections titled 'Twenty-Eight Mansions of the Moon' and 'Figures of the Planets'. References to the Biblical figure Solomon and to Hermes, the well-known figure within magical sources, can be found within the text, as well as magical figures and symbols for planets and zodiac signs. | en_US |
