The responsible learning organisation is a new field in research. It consists of two main concepts; the learning organisation and Responsible Research and Innovation framework (RRI). The responsible learning organisation requires organisations to continuously learn and innovate in a responsible manner. The objective of this thesis is to gather qualitative insights on the responsible learning organisation in practice. Moreover, this research contributes to the understanding of how the responsible learning organisation influences competitive advantages. The data is obtained from organisations through interviews in the manufacturing industry in the Netherlands. The manufacturers engage in both learning and innovation within their organisations. This research confirms that the learning organisation and RRI framework show overlap and similarities. The responsible learning organisation as a whole influences the competitive advantages of organisations on multiple levels. Employees are more productive, efficient and committed to the organisation. Because of this, the entire organisation is more responsive and adaptive to the environment. To conclude this, learning and responsible innovation should no longer be seen as a separate set of actions or activities but as an integrated part of organisations’ strategy.
