Abstract

This study aims to examine the organizational antecedents of intrapreneurial behavior within the public sector. Specifically, the relationships between perceived stress, perceived organizational support (POS) and intrapreneurial behavior were examined. The unique sectorspecific characteristics red tape and public service motivation (PSM) were included in the theoretical framework to achieve theory-based expectations tailored to the public sector. A quantitative analysis was conducted that includes a survey of 87 Dutch primary education teachers and hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Based on this analysis, it was found that POS is positively related to employee intrapreneurial behavior, while perceived stress is not. This study highlights the inclusion of POS in intrapreneurial behavior research in the public sector. The study furthermore emphasizes the relevance of including sector-specific characteristics in intrapreneurial behavior research, to ensure management interventions can be tailored to the specific context.
