This research was done in an attempt to explain institutional overlap between multilateral development banks. In order to do this several theoretical approaches were combined, including contested multilateralism and institutional design. Two cases were examined. The first is the overlap between the ADB and the AIIB, where China founded the later because it was dissatisfied with the power dimension in the former. The second case is the overlap between the EBRD and de EDB, where Russia and Kazakhstan founded the EDB because they were dissatisfied with the functioning of the EBRD.en_US
