Abstract

This thesis investigates how diversity within top management teams (TMT) and boards of directors (BoD) influences corporate social performance (CSP). Specifically, it examines whether diversity in gender, age, and nationality positively impacts CSP for a sample of North American and European countries between 2003 and 2022. Using mixed-effects models, the results indicate that gender diversity in both TMT and BoD positively influence CSP, while age diversity in TMT and BoD shows a negative correlation. The findings reveal that board expertise amplifies the relationship between age and nationality diversity within the BoD and CSP, while board independence strengthens the effect of BoD nationality diversity on the CSP. These results underscore the complexity of diversity dynamics and their impact on CSP, highlighting the nuanced roles of different diversity dimensions and governance structures.
