dc.description.abstract | The objective of this thesis is to provide insights into the emergence of the Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textile (AGT) and particularly to contribute to the existing gap in literature on how interests in a multi-stakeholder initiative (MSI) are brought together. By applying a contestatory deliberative perspective, perceiving consensus and contestations within MSIs as equal, the research gap is filled. Based on the gathered findings, a new model is developed, explaining the emergence of the AGT. This model captures the interests of firms, government, and civil society actors in the AGT and shows that these interests are managed by orchestrating, leading to the bringing together of interests. In addition, drivers and barriers of bundling interests are identified. The founder of the AGT seems to play an essential role in bringing interests together as this actor manages consensus and contestations between interests by means of orchestrating. Orchestrating implies connecting actors with shared interests, aligning sustainability levels of firms with realistic actions and goals, giving actors customised support based on their issues and interests, and evaluating the AGT’s functioning in determining the future trajectory of the AGT. | en_US |
