Abstract

To explain the mechanics of decision making strategies, Gigerenzer, Todd, and the ABC research group (1999) put forth a model they called the adaptive toolbox. The tools in this adaptive toolbox are heuristics. Each of those heuristics is suited for specific situations and have been adapted to the environment by evolution. This project explores by means of evolutionary algorithms the plausibility of the toolbox being evolvable in two separate conditions: a fixed sized population and a variable sized population that can die out. In neither condition the adaptive toolbox was found to be plausibly evolvable.
