| dc.description.abstract | This research explores how the urban environment shapes the spatial behaviour and day-to-day experiences of homeless EU migrants in Utrecht, with the aim of informing better policy and support for this marginalized group. The main research question is: How does the urban environment influence the spatial behaviour and day-to-day experience of homeless EU migrants in Utrecht? To address this question, qualitative methods were employed, including narrative interviews, observations, and participatory research through volunteer work at the Salvation Army in Utrecht. This approach allowed for in-depth interaction with the target group, providing rich insights into their lived experiences. The results reveal that social exclusion, interactions within the urban environment, and access to resources such as shelters and personal care facilities significantly impact the spatial behaviour of homeless EU migrants. The study concludes that the urban environment not only shapes their daily experiences but also often exacerbates the difficulties they face, reinforcing cycles of marginalization. The discussion emphasizes the need for urban policies that are more inclusive and responsive to the specific needs of homeless migrants. It advocates for incorporating the voices of these individuals into the policy-making process to develop more effective and compassionate support systems. | |
