Abstract

This paper assesses the plausibility of Rawls’s theory of justice framework in the domain of urban-spatial justice. By utilizing insights from urban theory literature, I aim to ascertain the theoretical feasibility of Rawls's theory in this field. I also address the theoretical criticisms of applying Rawls’s theory to urban issues such as transportation and housing in the spatial layout of cities. The 15-minute city, I propose, could potentially offer a solution that addresses some of the main distributive problems for Rawls’s principles of justice in the spatial distribution of urban resources. Lastly, I explore whether the 15-minute city can provide a just spatial framework for housing and transportation, considering the plausibility of using Rawls’s principles of justice.
