Abstract

This research tried to untangle literature on organizational change. The goal of this research was to help organizations that need to or want to reorganize, understand what happens to their employees when they do. The assumption is made that reorganizations lead to negative employee effects and that these are moderated by communication. The assumption is made that there is a direct effect between negative employee effects and change resistance & a direct effect between quality of communication during a reorganization and change resistance. The research found the following: Reorganized groups experience more negative employee effects than groups that are not reorganized. Being reorganized doesn’t predict the amount of negative employee effects experienced. This could suggest that reorganizations result in another variable leading to negative employee effects. The research couldn’t confirm that quality of communication during a reorganization moderates negative effects coming forth from reorganizations. The research didn’t lead to new insights on any direct effects on change resistance. The research does find that communication within organizations may be a very important factor in the amount of negative employee effects experienced within organizations. Suggesting that communication may be an important factor to manage employee well-being during reorganizations and stability.
