| dc.description.abstract | The current research is a follow-up study on the work of Sparreboom et al. (2014) who investigated the cortical auditory maturation in children with sequential bilateral cochlear implants. The aim of the current study was to examine the effect of long-term bilateral cochlear implant (BiCI) use on the auditory cortical balance and processing in the same patients. EEG recordings were obtained to analyse the N1 and P2 components of the electrical auditory cortical responses (EACRs). EACRs were obtained by directly stimulating CI1 and CI2 unilaterally. CI1 and CI2 latencies of N1 and P2, and the peak-to-peak (P-P) amplitudes were compared for three different intracochlear electrodes. Furthermore, the effect of inter-implant delay and age at CI1 implantation were included in the analysis. An additional aim was to analyse bilateral EACRs as a pilot for direct bilateral stimulation..... | |
