| dc.description.abstract | In today's fast-paced world driven by capitalist growth, time pressure and perceptions of time poverty have become prevalent global issues. This study aims to explore the relationship between time pressure, perceived time poverty, challenge appraisal, hindrance appraisal, and individual task performance. The research questions focus on the effects of perceived time poverty and challengehindrance appraisal of time pressure on task performance under time pressure, as well as the variation in the effects of time pressure on task performance based on perceived time poverty and challenge-hindrance appraisal. To investigate these relationships, an online survey experiment is conducted. The experimental group experiences manipulated time pressure, while the control group operates without time pressure. Measures of individual task performance, perceived time poverty, and challenge-hindrance appraisal of time pressure are collected, along with control variables. The measures include attention, cognitive performance, and working memory tasks. The study employs statistical analysis to examine how individuals respond to induced time pressure and assess the effects of time pressure on task performance. The results indicate that exposure to time pressure significantly decreases individual task performance across all sub-measures. However, perceived time poverty and challenge appraisal of time pressure do not have a significant impact on task performance. Hindrance appraisal of time pressure impairs attentional performance but does not affect other performance measures. The heterogeneity analysis reveals a combined negative effect of time pressure and hindrance appraisal on cognitive performance, while no heterogenous effect is observed for individuals perceiving time poverty or appraising time pressure as a challenge. | |
