Abstract

With the trend of the European continent being increasingly integrative, cross-border mobility between nation states of Europe becomes more popular. A European continent where countries are highly connective with each other brings challenges such as seamless public transport across borders. Public transport is a facilitator for cross-border mobility. This bachelor thesis investigates the case study of the EUREGIO Rhein-Waal which is a cross-border region between Germany and the Netherlands. The so-called Rhein-IJssel Express since 2017 connects Arnhem in the Netherlands with Düsseldorf in Germany. This research investigates the relation between the quality of the Rhein-IJssel Express with cross-border mobility usage patterns of its passengers which show relations with commuting for work, education and crossing the border for leisure and tourism purposes. As emphasized, the European cross-border region EUREGIO Rhein-Waal is the geographical area of this research project.
