Abstract

The changing climate can be considered to be one of the most challenging contemporary challenges. Climate adaptation is one of the two strategies of coping with climate change. Policies, such as the Dutch National Climate Adaptation Strategy, have been created to provide structure to the human battle against climate change. Climate services have arisen, partially because of the created policies. In an ideal world, climate services would make sure decision-makers make well-informed decisions regarding climate adaptation. However, many of those climate services have usability gaps, thus are unsuitable for optimal climate adaptation decision-making. Knowledge ambassadors could potentially bridge the existing gaps between climate services and their end-users. This research’s aim is to test and potentially complement or redesign the analytical framework depicting the usability gaps (as created by Raaphorst et al., 2020), by researching four climate services and their users. The data collection methods used in this research to answer the main research question are desk research and case studies. Users of all four cases (i.e., climate services) have been interviewed. This, in order to answer the main research question: Which factors and actors contribute to the actual usage of climate services within the climate adaptation decision-making process?
