Abstract

In this research, it is investigated what types of stimuli are the most effective means, in terms of BCI performance, for controlling a prosthetic arm using a cVEP-based BCI. Specifically, different ways of interaction between the stimuli and a virtual arm, positing dynamic projection of the stimuli on the associated limbs against having a static control frame. Although no significant difference was found in performance, this research does lay fruit to further research in that it acts as a pilot experiment showing the promises of building and controlling an arm in a virtual world via a BCI. It suggests a few advantages and disadvantages of having a dynamic reference frame as well as how the experiment can be improved in future iterations. Also stating a suggestion on how to transform the advantages of the virtual world to the real world; ultimately hoping to return a form of independence to LIS patients.
