| dc.description.abstract | During the Covid-19 crisis, regions became an extremely important player in the Dutch political landscape. Still, questions remains about the status of the region in the Netherlands. One of these questions, that is the focus of this thesis, is whether people trust regional governance in the Netherlands and on what their trust verdict is based. Based on a self-made survey in the Netherlands, this research shows that while there is a lot of policy action at the regional level, people are generally unaware and have limited knowledge of regional governance, which leads to the fact that they find it difficult to form a trust verdict about regional governance. When they are capable to form a trust verdict, they do so in different ways: they extend trust from other levels of government (municipal, provincial and European), they base in on input characteristics like ‘whether the region is democratic’, ‘whether input is possible at the regional level’ and the responsiveness of regional governors. But they also base in on output characteristics like satisfaction with the performance of for instance the Municipal Health Care Services and the Safety Region or on regional characteristics like ‘being proud about the region one lives in’ and ‘having the feeling that there is no interest from regional governors towards a certain part of the region’. | en_US |
