Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of Dutch foreign policy on the war in Gaza on the political trust of young Dutch citizens aged
18-35. Utilizing a quantitative approach, this study investigates how trust in the Dutch foreign policy position correlates with
trust in government, exploring the role of media engagement as a potential moderating factor. The research specifically analyses
the extent to which different forms of media, including traditional and social media, influence the relationship between trust in
the Dutch foreign policy position and political trust.
The results reveal that higher levels of trust in the Dutch foreign policy position towards Gaza are associated with higher levels
of trust in government. While engagement with media—both traditional and with critical content on social media platforms—
is correlated with lower levels of trust in the Dutch foreign policy position, it does not substantially alter overall trust in
government. The findings suggest that young Dutch citizens may distrust the Dutch foreign policy position without losing trust
in the government as a whole.
