Abstract

During the time of Augustus veteran colonies were already well known in the Roman world. Augustus introduced the imperial cult, the worship of the emperor and his family. As Augustus was the head of the Roman army, the Roman soldiers had a link to the imperial cult. This thesis analyses inscriptions from Gallia Narbonensis to determine whether or not Roman veteran soldiers would continue to be involved in the imperial cult. This is mostly reflected in the priestly offices.
