Abstract
Closed-loop medical systems regulate the health of their wearers. These systems can provide more effective control over human bodies compared to manually performed medicine. In this way, these systems can be interpreted as systems that allow Foucauldian biopower to manifest to a greater degree. Due to primarily considering digital representations of human bodies in determining both the health of the body and what actions to perform to keep it healthy, there is a displacement of these bodies by their digital representations. Foucauldian biopower cannot adequately describe power over digital representations that, like manually performed medical actions, result in the regulation of human bodies. To solve this, I propose that Foucauldian biopower be modified such that it loosens its emphasis that biopower only affects human bodies.
