Abstract
This research analyzed the discourses on climate change migration of key actors within the Western World, and how it relates to the lack of definition in legal frameworks. The repercussions of climate change on the natural world have resulted in an increasing number of forced migration. This form of migration has developed into a recurring problem since the turn of the century, where the underdeveloped discourses created by actors fluctuate strongly among each other within society. This is reflected within legal policy, as to this day climate change migrants or refugees are excluded from the legal framework.
A Critical Discourse Analysis was executed on sources of the three actors; the European Union, the United Nations, and the National Governments of Germany and Italy. The results showed that the denying of the existence of the victims circumvents the responsibility of the Western World. The historical political difficulties surrounding migration are reflected within these discourses, resulting in a substantial effort of the actors to stop the consequences of climate change, which keeps the migrators and the responsibility of creating legal policy away.
